Well Water Treatment Solutions for Dunnellon

What Clean Well Water Actually Changes

Your water stops smelling like rotten eggs when you turn on the shower. The rust stains disappear from your sinks, toilets, and laundry. Your appliances last longer because they’re not fighting mineral buildup every day.

You stop second-guessing whether your water is safe. You stop buying bottled water for drinking and cooking. Your home feels cleaner because it actually is cleaner.

That’s what happens when you fix the source instead of working around it. Well water in Dunnellon comes with its own set of problems – iron, sulfur, manganese, and bacterial contamination are common throughout Marion County. A whole house water filtration system handles all of it before the water reaches your faucets, your appliances, or your family.

Our Well Water Filtration Process

Here's How We Handle Your Well Water

First, we test your water. Not a basic hardness test – a full analysis that identifies exactly what’s in your well water. Iron levels, sulfur content, bacteria presence, pH, TDS, nitrates, manganese – everything that affects how your water performs and whether it’s safe.

Then we design a system based on those results and your household’s water usage. If you’ve got high iron and sulfur, we might recommend air injection oxidation or hydrogen peroxide injection to eliminate both. If bacteria is an issue, we’ll include disinfection. If you’ve got hardness on top of everything else, we’ll add softening. Every system is custom-designed because every well is different.

Installation typically takes a day. We connect the system to your main water line so every drop of water entering your home gets treated. After installation, we test again to confirm everything’s working correctly. Then we walk you through basic maintenance – which is minimal with the systems we install.

Well Water Issues in Dunnellon, FL

What We're Actually Treating in Your Water

Iron is the big one in Dunnellon. It causes the rust stains on everything your water touches – sinks, tubs, toilets, driveways where you water plants. It makes your water look orange or brown. Iron removal systems use oxidation to convert dissolved iron into particles that get filtered out before the water enters your home.

Hydrogen sulfide is what causes the rotten egg smell. It’s sulfur bacteria in your well, and it’s extremely common in Florida’s warm, humid conditions. Hydrogen sulfide treatment uses either air injection oxidation or hydrogen peroxide injection to eliminate the odor at the source.

Bacteria and viruses are a bigger risk in well water than most people realize. Florida’s climate creates ideal conditions for bacterial growth. Well water bacteria disinfection systems kill harmful organisms without leaving chemical residuals in your water.

Manganese often shows up alongside iron. It causes black staining and can affect the taste of your water. Nitrates and phosphates come from fertilizer runoff – common in central Florida. High TDS and tannins are also frequent issues depending on where your well draws from. A properly designed whole house water filtration system addresses all of these based on what’s actually in your water.

How do I know what's actually wrong with my well water?

You need a complete water analysis, not just a hardness test. We test for iron, sulfur, bacteria, pH, total dissolved solids, nitrates, manganese, and anything else that could be affecting your water quality or safety.

The test is free and takes about a week to get results from the lab. Once we know exactly what’s in your water, we can recommend the right treatment method. Guessing or installing a generic system usually means you’re either over-treating or under-treating – and both waste money.

Some issues are obvious – if your water smells like rotten eggs, you’ve got hydrogen sulfide. If you see rust stains, you’ve got iron. But bacterial contamination, high nitrates, and other health-related problems don’t always have visible signs. That’s why testing matters.

Both methods eliminate hydrogen sulfide, but they work differently. Air injection oxidation pulls oxygen into your water, which converts the sulfur into a particle that gets filtered out. It’s chemical-free, low maintenance, and effective for moderate sulfur levels.

Hydrogen peroxide injection adds a small amount of peroxide to oxidize the sulfur. It works faster and handles higher sulfur concentrations, plus it provides some bacteria control as a bonus. The peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen, so there’s no chemical residual.

Which one you need depends on your sulfur levels and whether you’ve got other issues like bacteria or iron. If your water test shows high sulfur and bacterial contamination, hydrogen peroxide injection usually makes more sense. If it’s just sulfur and iron, air injection oxidation is typically the simpler solution.

No. Water softeners remove hardness – calcium and magnesium. They’re not designed to handle iron, sulfur, or bacteria. If you run water with high iron through a standard softener, you’ll ruin the resin bed and the system will stop working.

You need an iron removal system before the softener. The iron filter takes out the iron and sulfur first, then the softener handles the hardness. If you try to do it backwards or skip the iron filter entirely, you’ll end up with stained fixtures, a damaged softener, and the same problems you started with.

Some companies sell “iron-fighting” softeners, but they only work with very low iron levels – usually under 1-2 ppm. Most wells in Dunnellon have higher iron than that. A dedicated iron removal system using air injection oxidation or hydrogen peroxide injection is the reliable fix.

It depends on the system, but most of what we install is low maintenance. Air injection oxidation systems need a filter change once or twice a year and an occasional check of the air pocket. Hydrogen peroxide injection systems need the peroxide tank refilled every few months, depending on your water usage.

If you’ve got a bacteria disinfection system, it typically runs on its own with minimal upkeep. Water softeners need salt added regularly – usually every 4-6 weeks. Reverse osmosis systems need filter changes every 6-12 months depending on the stage.

We walk you through everything during installation. Most homeowners handle basic maintenance themselves – it’s straightforward. We’re also available for service calls if you’d rather have us handle it or if something needs attention. The systems we install are built to run reliably without constant babysitting.

Most installations take one day. We’re connecting the system to your main water line after the pressure tank, so all the water coming into your home gets treated. The actual work involves some plumbing, electrical connections, and setting up the control valves.

Larger or more complex systems might take a bit longer – if you’re installing iron removal, bacteria disinfection, softening, and reverse osmosis all at once, we might need a day and a half. But the majority of whole house systems are up and running within 6-8 hours.

You’ll have water during most of the installation. We only need to shut off your main line for short periods while we’re making connections. After everything’s installed, we test the system, check for leaks, and make sure it’s operating correctly before we leave. Then we show you how everything works and answer any questions.
