The 2023 Village Center Service Area Consumer Confidence Report put The Villages water hardness at 153 mg/L roughly 9 grains per gallon. That’s solidly in the hard category, and for Del Mar’s cottage homes, most of which were built in the late 1980s and 1990s, that mineral load has been accumulating inside pipes, water heaters, and appliances for a long time.
The scale doesn’t announce itself. It just quietly reduces your water heater’s efficiency, shortens the life of your dishwasher and washing machine, and leaves that chalky film on your shower doors and faucets that no cleaning product seems to permanently fix.
Once the right whole-house system is in place, that stops. Your appliances run the way they’re supposed to. Your water heater isn’t fighting mineral buildup every time it fires up. Your dishes come out of the dishwasher without the white residue. Your skin and hair feel different in the shower noticeably softer, which matters more than most people expect, especially for residents managing sensitive or aging skin.
There’s also the PFAS question. The Environmental Working Group’s data for The Villages water utility shows PFOS detected at 6.07 parts per trillion above the EPA’s 2024 Maximum Contaminant Level of 4 ppt. Your utility has until 2029 to bring that into compliance. In the meantime, a residential reverse osmosis system at your kitchen sink removes 99% or more of PFAS at the point of use, today, without waiting for anyone else to act.
We’re headquartered in Leesburg Lake County, the same county as Del Mar and every Lake County neighborhood in The Villages. That’s not a coincidence. We know the Floridan Aquifer, we understand what the water coming out of your tap in the Spanish Springs area actually looks like, and we’ve built our company around being the kind of local water treatment provider this community deserves.
Our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau comes with zero complaints filed something that’s genuinely rare in this industry, and something you can verify yourself at bbb.org in about 30 seconds. We’re also members of the National Water Quality Association, which requires ongoing certification and adherence to national standards that most companies operating in this area don’t bother with.
The same team that shows up to install your system is the same team that answers the phone when you need service. No call centers. No subcontractors. No being bounced between departments.
It starts with a free water analysis. Before anything is recommended, one of our technicians comes to your home in Del Mar, tests your specific water, looks at your plumbing setup, and understands how your household actually uses water. A 1,200-square-foot cottage with one or two residents has different needs than a larger home with a family. The system you get should reflect your actual situation, not a generic package pulled off a shelf.
From there, the recommendation is built around what your water test shows. If your hardness and scale buildup are the primary concern, a salt-based water softening system or a salt-free treatment system may be the right fit. If PFAS or other contaminants are the priority, a whole house water filter or a residential reverse osmosis system gets added into the conversation. Right now, we’re including a free reverse osmosis drinking water system with the purchase of any whole-home purification system so the drinking water piece is covered from day one.
Installation is handled by the same team that assessed your home. Del Mar’s cottage homes are compact and well-suited to a clean, straightforward installation typically in the garage or utility area, with no exterior modifications that would conflict with Villages community standards. After installation, you get a full walkthrough of how the system works, what to expect, and how to maintain it. And if something ever needs attention down the road, you call the same people who put it in.

We offer four core water treatment solutions, and the right one depends entirely on what your water test shows.
Water Softening uses ion exchange to remove the hardness minerals calcium and magnesium that cause scale buildup and appliance wear. It’s the most direct solution for the 153 mg/L hardness level documented in The Villages water system.
The Salt Free Treatment System uses template-assisted crystallization to prevent scale from forming without adding sodium, without using electricity, and without wasting water. For Del Mar residents managing sodium-restricted diets or who simply don’t want to haul 40-pound salt bags into a compact cottage garage, this is often the better fit.
The Whole House Water Filter addresses contaminants at every tap in the home including the PFAS, nitrates, and disinfection byproducts that the EWG database flags for The Villages utility. And the Residential Reverse Osmosis system provides purified drinking and cooking water at the kitchen sink, removing 99% or more of PFAS at the point of use.
The Purelight Whole House UV System is also available for homes where bacterial or biological concerns are a factor particularly relevant for Del Mar residents who spend part of the year away and return to water that’s been sitting in the system for months.
We also service all brands, not just systems we install. If you already have a system that needs attention, we can help with that too.
Yes and the numbers back it up. The 2023 Village Center Service Area Consumer Confidence Report, which covers the water utility serving Del Mar and the surrounding Lake County neighborhoods in The Villages, recorded water hardness at 153 mg/L. That converts to approximately 9 grains per gallon, which falls squarely in the hard classification. Water quality researchers generally consider anything above 7 GPG hard, and above 10.5 GPG very hard so Del Mar sits in the upper range of hard.
For the cottage homes in Del Mar, many built in the late 1980s and 1990s, that hardness level has been running through the plumbing for 25 to 35 years. That’s a long time for scale to accumulate inside water heaters, supply lines, and appliance connections. A free water analysis from us will confirm exactly what your water looks like and what, if anything, makes sense for your specific home and household.
They solve related problems in different ways. A traditional water softener uses ion exchange it swaps the calcium and magnesium ions that cause hardness for sodium ions, effectively removing the hardness minerals from the water entirely. The result is genuinely soft water that won’t form scale and won’t leave mineral deposits on your fixtures or inside your appliances. It does add a small amount of sodium to the water, which is undetectable to most people but worth knowing about if you’re on a sodium-restricted diet.
A salt-free treatment system our Salt Free Treatment System specifically uses template-assisted crystallization to change the structure of the hardness minerals so they can’t stick to surfaces and form scale. The minerals stay in the water, but they pass through harmlessly instead of depositing. No salt, no electricity, no water waste, and no heavy bags to manage. For a compact Del Mar cottage where garage space is limited and the resident is managing a health condition that makes sodium a concern, the salt-free option is often the more practical choice. Both systems address the scale problem; which one is right for you depends on your water chemistry and your household priorities.
The short answer is yes, it has been detected. The Environmental Working Group’s database for The Villages water utility (FL3350942) shows PFOS one of the most studied and regulated PFAS compounds detected at 6.07 parts per trillion. The EPA established a Maximum Contaminant Level of 4 ppt for PFOS in 2024. That means the current detection level in The Villages system exceeds the federal standard the EPA itself set. Utilities have until 2029 to bring their systems into compliance with that standard.
That’s a reason to act if you want to address it now rather than wait. The technology that removes PFAS most effectively at the household level is reverse osmosis. An under-sink RO system at your kitchen tap removes 99% or more of PFAS from the water you drink and cook with. We install residential reverse osmosis systems, and right now we’re including a free RO drinking water system with the purchase of any whole-home purification system which means you can address both the hardness and the PFAS concern in a single installation.
It’s a real consideration, and one that comes up often in The Villages. When a home sits unoccupied for several months, water stagnates in the pipes, the water heater, and any appliances connected to the supply line. In Florida’s warm climate, that stagnant water can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Scale deposits in the water heater and fixtures also harden and become more stubborn during periods of disuse. When you return in the fall and turn the taps back on, what comes out may smell or taste different from what you remember and your appliances may be working harder than they should.
Our Purelight Whole House UV System addresses the biological side of this directly. It kills waterborne bacteria and organisms continuously and silently, without adding chemicals to the water. Paired with a softening or salt-free system, it means your Del Mar home’s water is clean and your plumbing is protected whether you’re there full-time or returning after a summer away. A free water analysis when you return for the season is a straightforward way to get a clear picture of where things stand.
It depends on what problem you’re trying to solve. An under-sink reverse osmosis system addresses what you drink and cook with it’s highly effective at removing PFAS, nitrates, and other contaminants at that single point of use. But it does nothing for the water running through your pipes, your water heater, your washing machine, or your shower. If scale buildup, appliance wear, dry skin, or spotty dishes are concerns and at 153 mg/L hardness in The Villages, they’re legitimate concerns an under-sink filter alone won’t address any of that.
A whole-house system treats every tap in the home. That means the water going into your water heater, your dishwasher, your washing machine, and your showerheads is treated before it ever gets there. For Del Mar’s older cottage homes, where the plumbing has already been running on hard Floridan Aquifer water for decades, a whole-house approach protects whatever useful life remains in the home’s infrastructure. The free water analysis we offer is the right starting point it gives you a clear answer based on your actual water, not a general recommendation.
